I came across this lovely DIY project from Say Yes to Hoboken.  She did this amazing surprise ball for her husband and used capsules to put little love notes in so as he unwrapped the ball, he came across each little love note that she has left for him.  So cute and so heartfelt!!  And you may recognize those capsules from your childhood too!  Check out the full details for what she used here.
